How Detoxing Energizes Your Mind and Body

By Marilyn Zink

This is Day 10 of my 12 day detox program and I am feeling so energized, despite expecting a monthly visitor any day now (oh, joy). You women know what I mean.

I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 6 a.m. For those who know me, I am not an early riser. I almost NEVER get up at 6 a.m. unless it’s something important, like,  going on a trip to Mexico.

The bright sun woke me up this morning and normally I would have resisted and got up slowly. This time I practically sprang out of bed, full of anticipation for the day.

This is what detoxing does for you. Not just your body, but your mind. A comment on my previous detox article (see Detoxing for Greater Energy, Yahoo, May 4,’09) talks about how detoxing affects the mind too.

I might add it also affects your motivation. I have been feeling more motivated lately and it’s not just because it’s spring. (Yesterday’s rain and wind felt more like October).

This good feeling ties in closely with what we eat. Many people eat the Standard American Diet (SAD), full of saturated fats, processed food and sugar.

Sugar is particularly prevalent in the foods we eat in our society. It is everywhere, even in canned vegetables. Why? Because manufacturers know we have gotten used to expecting it and also because it is very addicting.

The more sugar you eat, the more you want to eat. Manufacturers tell us that eating a surgary breakfast cereal is a good way to start the day.

It’s not true folks. Sugar depresses your immune system for up to four hours. The more sugar you eat, the worse you feel. And you don’t even know why.

When you believe the manufacturers who tell you to eat more sugar, you are giving your power away.  You are giving your health away.

If sugar depresses your immune system, what do you think it does to your mind?  I wrote an article about the dangers of sugar in a Nov/Dec issue of the Herbal Collective several years ago.

So stop eating sugar. Read labels. Clean up your diet. Give yourself a kickstart by doing a herbal cleanse. You will be amazed at how good you feel.
