Strawberry Chocolate Hemp Smoothie
By Marilyn Zink
Summer is a great time to make smoothies, as it’s a quick way to get nourishment into the body.
It’s also a great way to cool down if ice or frozen fruit is used in the smoothie.
I developed my Strawberry Chocolate Hemp Smoothie as a way to use some hemp protein I purchased. The hemp protein is a little bit ‘green’ on its own so adding the strawberry and chocolate to it helps give it a nice flavour. Chocolate gives it a smoother, more decadent flavour too!
The hemp protein also makes the smoothie very filling, so someone could make this for breakfast if they were in a hurry and drink it on the way to work or at work.
On a hot day, I like to use frozen strawberries instead of ice cubes as this makes the smoothie thicker and creamier. Crushed ice cubes tend to make the smoothie more watery.
I also like to use a little bit of cinnamon and vanilla to enhance the flavour of the smoothie and give it a fuller taste.
So without further ado, here is the recipe. Just keep in mind that the hemp protein is not the same as hemp hearts. You could however, use hemp hearts but it would definitely be a grainy taste.
Strawberry Chocolate Hemp Smoothie
1 tbsp. hemp protein
½ to 1 cup frozen strawberries
1 tbsp. chocolate powder
2 cups soy milk, almond milk or other milk
½ tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Enjoy!
